AlamarBlue®
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
AlamarBlue® is a highly sensitive resazurin-based cell viability reagent designed for rapid assessment of cellular metabolic activity, proliferation, cytotoxicity, and drug sensitivity in biological systems.
The reagent operates through reduction of the non-fluorescent blue dye resazurin into the highly fluorescent pink compound resorufin by metabolically active living cells.
This provides a simple, non-radioactive, and highly reproducible assay system widely used in:
- Cell biology
- Cancer research
- Toxicology
- Drug discovery
- Microbiology
- Stem cell research
- Tissue engineering
SCIENTIFIC PRINCIPLE
Redox Conversion Mechanism
Oxidized Form (Blue)
Resazurin
↓
Reduced Form (Pink/Fluorescent)
Resorufin
Metabolically active cells reduce resazurin through mitochondrial, cytosolic, and microsomal enzymes, generating measurable colorimetric and fluorescent signals proportional to viable cell number.
